How to Add a Bible Verse to Your iPhone's Smart Stack
Somewhere on your Home Screen or Lock Screen, you probably already have a Smart Stack — that small column of widgets iOS quietly rotates through the day. Weather first thing in the morning, your calendar before a meeting, the battery widget at night. It rearranges itself around your habits without asking you to do anything. A verse can live there too, taking its turn like any other quiet presence.
Here's how to set it up, and what it feels like once it's part of your day.
1. Start with a Smart Stack, if you don't have one yet
- Touch and hold an empty area of your Home Screen or Lock Screen until the widgets jiggle, then tap the + in the corner.
- Search for Smart Stack and drag it onto your screen. If you already stack two or more widgets on top of each other, that's a Smart Stack too — iOS made one for you.
2. Add Bible Clock's verse widget to the stack
- With the widgets still jiggling, tap the Smart Stack.
- Tap Edit Stack, then Add Widget.
- Search Bible Clock and choose the verse widget in the size you like. It drops into the rotation alongside whatever else already lives there.
3. Let iOS decide when it shows up — or ask it not to
- Smart Rotate is on by default, so the verse will surface at moments iOS thinks make sense — often first thing in the morning, or in a quiet stretch of the afternoon.
- Prefer it pinned in place instead of rotating? Open Edit Stack and turn Smart Rotate off. The verse widget will then sit wherever you leave it in the order.
A small note on what this is for
The Smart Stack already holds the parts of your day you check without deciding to — weather, time, a calendar you glance at rather than study. A verse fits that same rhythm. It isn't asking you to read a devotional or finish a plan; it's just present, the way the temperature is present, there when your eyes land on it and easy to pass by when they don't. Some days you'll actually read the words. Most days you'll just see them, and that's fine too.
If you'd like the verse to travel with you further than one stack — onto your Apple Watch face, your iPad, your Mac desktop — Bible Clock puts a new one on every screen you own, once, with no subscription.
